About Me

My photo

Pragmatic, reserved and a deep thinker who loves family, sports especially football where am married to two wives: the first, AC Milan who has my loyalty and the second wife, Manchester United who has all my undying love and pampering, lifestyle and society parties. Need I say the law is more than a profession but a lifestyle for me.

Adekanye Adeyinka Olajide.

I do it for me

Of late, I have not had too many things to cheer about not because there has not been things in my life to be thankful for, but mainly because there has been too many things around my environment capable of derailing a stable minded man from profitable contributions. I mean there has been little or no good news to celebrate about in this country; it is either the senseless power tussle between the All People’s Congress and the People’s Democratic Party over majority control like starving dogs over bones, or allegations of corruption alleged like children throwing tantrums. Sometimes, our shameless politicians have been exchanging endless letters like adolescent love letters. However, the recent horrendous heat waves has left me more perturbed, which have been so devastating I wish one could just take some relaxation time in a freezer.

I am sure most of you will be wondering where exactly I am driving at with this much story. Well, I just tried to paint the picture of how harsh this environment can be and if we all agree that it is, then it makes any human pensive. It is enough to know that we daily have challenges of life that we each personally battle but it becomes insufferable when we have to battle with insecurity, looting and unwholesome disregard of the rule of law. Do not get me wrong. I do not intend to be overly dramatic; but as humans, do we not deserve the little things of this world that matter most? What happens to the happiness, joy, flash, and dash of a beautiful existence? Indeed, the world is sick, our souls get wearier by the day, and I know we are supposed to find remedies to the issues of life rather than complain but then what happens if all we try to remedy gets worse and deeper with compounded woes?

I also know you all know all what I know and even much more. I am only thinking if we all bring our little knowing together, we just might be able to crush the mountain before us and thrive against all odds. There are no doubts that we face many odds than most people in other parts of the world in Nigeria. We constantly battle with life draining challenges that suffocate our efforts to get better. Opportunities are marginal and we mostly have to badge at doors to have them opened. Things are unbelievably awkward in our society. It is almost as if nothing turns out well and it explains why we offer prayers even against mosquito bites. Hence, we struggle against the sea tides without lifejackets on tossed into it without safety measures.

The truth is there will always be odds in life only that it is supposed to be proportionate to our inner strength to bear and persevere. Odds help us to set priorities, caution us, and sometimes prevent us from doing the wrong things. Above all, it helps us to define our character after all it is the furnace the iron goes through that makes it stronger and give it a resistance to other elements. My point is we cannot dispel of the anomalies life constantly throws at us.

Everyone has to do all in their power to conquer forces that impede us from achieving the ultimate goal. It varies what we all go through; but everyone surely has his/her battle to face be it to find a partner, get a job, raise a family, promotion, to live in itself, to deal with a loss, to be happy, to have what we desire when we need them, etc. The sad thing however, is that these odds always stand in our way of progress or achieving beneficial goals. Odds are the monsters of impossibilities, the people who bring us down, circumstances that drain our hopes, disappoints that kill our visions. The ugly beasts that not only tell us we cannot but do all to stop us.

What then is the solution? I have learnt that one of the virtues of life is perseverance and this is a key component in facing the odds too. We must wear perseverance as our shield with such grit that even the odds start to shiver. We all know that tough times do not last but that tough people do. Therefore, the secret to outlasting tough times is only by wearing it out with persistence and focus. Nothing is with a beginning that does not have an end. Everything in life is in phases hence, have an expiry date; although usually unknown, we will overcome when we strive on despite all challenges.

It is also vital that we imbibe patience in all our doings. Endurance is the staying power of a man with resilience and this by far is one of the simple pleasures of life. The ability to be patient gives the mind space to think properly. It aids in clearing a clouded perception. Thus, patience helps to define proper timing for things; if you doubt that, check the bats they know all about timing and the consequences of doing things at the wrong time - a bat that takes flight in broad daylight, may never live to tell the perilous tale. With patience, one can weather the storm of the odds because then, we strategise and get to broaden our horizon rather than fixating on the odds alone.

Consequently, the fact remains that no matter what, there are always going to be odds. Only thing that matters is how we manage ourselves at these peculiar moments. How we prepare to stem the tides by equipping ourselves better, turning the odds as leverages to spur us on. We have to make all obstacles as the stepping-stone to greater heights.

Have a blessed week y’all.
